El pasado a\u00f1o Nissan mostr\u00f3 una Frontier completamente nueva, y hace muy pocos meses conocimos la nueva generaci\u00f3n de la popular Toyota Tacoma, mientras que la Ford Ranger comenzar\u00e1 el 2024 con un redise\u00f1o total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para no quedarse rezagado, General Motors se sum\u00f3 en el 2023 a la l\u00ednea renovadora, entregando las redise\u00f1adas Chevrolet Colorado y su contraparte m\u00e1s lujosa, la GMC Canyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estas dos camionetas han compartido por a\u00f1os mucha de su tecnolog\u00eda, dise\u00f1o y partes, pero al parecer, General Motor est\u00e1 intentando disminuir las semejanzas entre las dos, m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la etiqueta de precio. Aunque casi todo es nuevo este a\u00f1o, uno de los cambios m\u00e1s relevantes es la adici\u00f3n de un nuevo acabado, el AT4X, m\u00e1s equipado para el todoterreno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahora encontramos una sola opci\u00f3n de motor, pues el Duramax Diesel ha sido discontinuado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Motors tambi\u00e9n ha simplificado las cosas a la hora de elegir una Canyon. La 2023 GMC Canyon tiene una sola combinaci\u00f3n de cabina y cama: cabina doble con cama corta.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se ve desde afuera?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nadie debe sorprenderse al descubrir que la nueva Canyon tiene un aspecto m\u00e1s robusto. Es la norma en este segmento, con la posible \u00fanica excepci\u00f3n de la Honda Ridgeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La mayor\u00eda de las versiones exhiben una parrilla grande con rect\u00e1ngulos horizontales, pero la Denali encaja bandas tensas de molduras met\u00e1licas a trav\u00e9s de esta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El estilo es llamativo y resistente como el de una GMC Sierra, pero en menor escala.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfY por dentro?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre las cr\u00edticas m\u00e1s reiteradas a la GMC Canyon siempre encontramos la calidad de su interior, que no se diferenciaba lo suficiente de su equivalente m\u00e1s econ\u00f3mica Chevrolet Colorado.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Motors ha tomado nota, y dota a la Canyon del 2023 de una cabina m\u00e1s refinada y de mejores materiales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada acabado cuenta con un interior distinto, destacando la Denali, con molduras de madera grabadas con l\u00e1ser, paneles acolchados en el salpicadero y tapicer\u00eda de cuero.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tecnolog\u00eda y seguridad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GMC equipa de serie a la Canyon con tecnolog\u00eda de asistencia al conductor para mitigar o evitar colisiones, aunque algunas prestaciones necesitan pago adicional. Estas incluyen el monitor de punto ciego, sensores de estacionamiento trasero, c\u00e1maras en 360 grados, frenado autom\u00e1tico en reversa y el control de crucero adaptativo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La cabina denota cierta elegancia tecnol\u00f3gica, con un panel de instrumentos digital de 8 o 11 pulgadas dependiendo del acabado, y una pantalla t\u00e1ctil para el info entretenimiento de 11.3 pulgadas o 28.70 cent\u00edmetros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Android Auto y Apple CarPlay se conectan sin cables, y el sistema de info entretenimiento est\u00e1 basado en Google, con buen dise\u00f1o de interfaz limpia y respuestas r\u00e1pidas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se conduce?&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Canyon 2023 viene con una sola opci\u00f3n de motor, uno turbo alimentado de 4 cilindros y 2.7 litros que desarrolla 310 caballos y 430 lb\/pie de par. Extra\u00f1amos el motor di\u00e9sel de versiones anteriores, no as\u00ed el V6 de 3.6 litros. El nuevo 4 cilindros es una alternativa fuerte en el segmento, y cuando llega a las 3,000 revoluciones por minuto despliega el m\u00e1ximo de torsi\u00f3n, dando como resultado una buena sensaci\u00f3n de potencia. Correctamente equipada, esta camioneta mediana puede remolcar hasta 7.700 libras y cargar hasta 1.640 (3.492 y 744 kilogramos respectivamente) superior a la capacidad de una Toyota Tacoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La entrega de poder a trav\u00e9s de la transmisi\u00f3n de 8 velocidades es suave, aunque en algunos cambios descendentes pude notar cierta \u201cintranquilidad\u201d. Sobre el asfalto la marcha es sorprendentemente silenciosa, y la renovada plataforma deja fuera la sensaci\u00f3n ruda de cami\u00f3n, que algunos competidores tienen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En t\u00e9rminos de dimensiones exteriores, la nueva GMC Canyon 2023 es considerablemente m\u00e1s grande que la generaci\u00f3n anterior, especialmente en lo que respecta a la altura total, sobre todo en el acabado AT4X de nueva generaci\u00f3n, que es m\u00e1s de 9 pulgadas m\u00e1s altas. Curiosamente, es casi dos pulgadas m\u00e1s estrecha, pero en maniobras de estacionamiento en espacios estrechos, me pareci\u00f3 m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil de estacionar que la versi\u00f3n anterior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Canyon 2023 de tracci\u00f3n trasera obtiene 18 millas por gal\u00f3n (mpg) en ciudad y 23 mpg en carretera, 13.07 y 10.23 litros cada 100 kil\u00f3metros respectivamente. Es un consumo ligeramente por debajo de la media para una camioneta compacta. Los modelos equipados con tracci\u00f3n a las cuatro ruedas ven estas cifras disminuir ligeramente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfSi quiero una, por cu\u00e1l me decido?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La completamente renovada GMC Canyon del 2023 est\u00e1 disponible en cuatro acabados: Elevation, AT4, Denali y AT4X, todos en una configuraci\u00f3n de cabina Crew Cab, cama corta de 1,8 metros y un motor de cuatro cilindros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los precios oscilan entre los $36,900 para una Elevation, llegando a $55,500 para la Canyon AT4X. Estos son precios algo elevados para una camioneta compacta, y significativamente m\u00e1s caro que la Chevy Colorado, con quien comparte buena parte de sus \u201centra\u00f1as\u201d, pero la GMC Canyon es para aquellos que quieren lucir algo diferente y no les importa pagar por ello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfContra qui\u00e9n compite?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el segmento de las camionetas compactas no hay muchos competidores, pero la gran mayor\u00eda de buena reputaci\u00f3n. Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Santa Cruz y Nissan Frontier completan la lista, sin dejar fuera a la prima hermana Chevrolet Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concluyendo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ediciones anteriores de la GMC Canyon han sido blanco de cr\u00edticas por sus interiores poco atractivos, escasa tecnolog\u00eda y pocas habilidades todoterreno. General Motors ha sacado del vac\u00edo a su camioneta compacta m\u00e1s lujosa, entreg\u00e1ndonos en el 2023, una Canyon muy superior, capaz de colocarse m\u00e1s arriba en la lista de preferencias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Roger Rivero es un periodista independiente, miembro de NAHJ, la Asociaci\u00f3n nacional de periodistas Hispanos y de NWAPA, la Asociaci\u00f3n de periodistas automovil\u00edsticos del noroeste.
