Without proper representation from concerned citizens and small companies, our government can create regulations that will harm those entities without realizing it. I had the opportunity to meet Laura Perrotta, current president of American Truck Dealers (ATD), in Washington D.C., and she taught me a bit about what happens in our capital and their understanding of the trucking industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we move forward with the \u201cdecarbonizing\u201d of Heavy Trucks, many legislative decisions are taken, affecting the movement of goods and truck regulations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than ever, there is a need to bring the concerns of trucking companies to the government, as they are facing substantial private investments to acquire \u201cclean trucks\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good intent of cleaning the environment is also creating a very volatile market for the new and used truck market. From one side, we are seeing an increase in the cost of clean technology trucks due to the unique components they require. On the other hand, we are witnessing trucks become worthless overnight due to regulations with no regard for the loss incurred by the trucking companies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are all in this together to improve the air quality. But we need to ensure the people in government understand the short-term implications created by the movement of goods. New or altered laws and regulations shift the competitive landscape, and the pathways businesses seek for growth. The general public does not have access to closed doors meetings where these discussions occur, even if they are familiar with the names of elected officials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lobbyists provide a voice to the members of Congress. Like in any industry or organization, there is particular interest at play. But by replacing Diesel trucks with electric-powered vehicles, we are talking about the air we breathe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As representatives of industries or communities, we must have the ability to effectively communicate concerns and raise objections if the proposed regulations can impact the livelihood of the families involved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have a climate issue to address, but we need all parties to get involved in the future of clean transportation. Feel free to contact your local representatives. They often don\u2019t know how the transportation industry works or how it is affected by the laws they approve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want to minimize the impact of fossil fuels that power our trucks, but at the same time, we need a transition period to get the infrastructure in place so the adoption makes sense. Voice your concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Laura Perrotta, actual presidenta de American Truck Dealers (ATD), en Washington D.C., y me ense\u00f1\u00f3 un poco de lo que sucede en nuestra capital y su entendimiento de la industria camionera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A medida que avanzamos en la \u201cdescarbonizaci\u00f3n\u201d de los camiones pesados, se toman muchas decisiones legislativas que afectan el movimiento de mercanc\u00edas y las regulaciones de camiones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por otro lado, somos testigos de c\u00f3mo los camiones pierden su valor de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana debido a las regulaciones que no tienen en cuenta las p\u00e9rdidas sufridas por las empresas de camiones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estamos todos juntos en esto para mejorar la calidad del aire. Pero debemos asegurarnos de que las personas en el gobierno comprendan las implicaciones a corto plazo creadas por el movimiento de mercanc\u00edas. Las leyes y regulaciones nuevas o modificadas cambian el panorama competitivo y las v\u00edas que buscan las empresas para crecer. Como representantes de industrias o comunidades, debemos tener la capacidad de comunicar inquietudes y plantear objeciones de manera efectiva si las regulaciones propuestas pueden afectar el sustento de las familias involucradas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
